Spruce Up Your Bathroom And Sell For More

When a homeowner goes to do a remodeling project to add value to their home, there are two rooms that normally recoup their costs better than most other projects.

Any guesses on which rooms add the most value?

Well if you guessed a bathroom and a kitchen then you guessed right.

These two rooms generally garner most of their costs back when you sell, but a complete overhaul normally costs quite the hunk of cash.

But obviously doing any sort of renovation or remodel to these rooms is going to cost a significant amount of money, but not to fear, because if you are looking to make some changes to your home without breaking the bank, there are some easy projects you can do yourself that will make a big difference.

Today, we focus on the bathroom.

A recent article on about.com by Coral Nafie, “Freshen up your bathroom with simple weekend projects,” looks at projects you can do your self that will impress potential buyers if you are selling, or just make your regular guests impressed by your beautiful restroom.

The first project that can be done to really spruce up a bathroom and does not cost a sense is CLEANING UP. You will be surprised how far a little elbow grease goes when combined with removing clutter and good organization.

“Take everything - yes, everything! - out of your drawers and cupboards, off counters, and out of the medicine cabinet or vanity. It should look the way it did when you moved in. Choose only the must-have's and find the most convenient place to put them. Anything that is not essential should go out. The point here is to get rid of anything that you don't really need.”

Once you have taken the time to do the most thorough organization and cleaning possible, you can make some changes to the look of your bathroom. One of the most easiest and cost-effective ways to do this is to put a fresh coat of paint on.

“Get ready for the job and be sure you plan ahead. Map out the project and buy the needed supplies during the week in advance. Wash down the walls and use a de-glosser solution to make the walls ready for the new paint. Choose a paint color depending on your preferred style. To minimize the cost, try to coordinate with the fabrics you already have.”

If you do not feel like painting the entire bathroom, you can purchase other accessories for your bathroom to give it some more color.

Try implementing a colorful shower curtain into this room’s design, or even adding some new decorative hand towels. Buying this kind of stuff is still inexpensive, but makes a big difference.

Whether you are selling your home, or just want to give your home a new feel, these tips should leave your bathroom looking brand new without breaking the bank.
